Event Photography at Max in the Park 2025
Max in the Park was the kind of event that reminds me why I love living in London and being an event photographer. It’s the perfect place to enjoy live music across different genres, shop beautiful and bespoke products, eat great food and simply enjoy the moment. As part of the Brockley Max Festival, it drew families, artists, friends and neighbours to Hilly Fields in the London Borough of Lewisham for a full day of sounds and celebrations.
I joined the event as a volunteer and did my best to capture the diversity of experiences, from the performances on the stage, stallholders, art in action, the spontaneous moments to everything in between.
Why I love Festival and Community Event Photography
I enjoy working outdoors with natural light and changing weather conditions. Yes, even the rain! My goal is to reflect the multitude of experiences that a festival offers. Some of the photos are candid, some staged, and it’s always nice to chat to the stallholders and find out more about their crafts and products. As the festival stretched from midday till evening, I didn’t have to rush, and had plenty of time to take it all in, sample some food (too much cake!) and enjoy the London summer vibe, my favourite time of the year in the capital.
What I Looked for
The big moments people waited for: Such as winning the raffle!
The action on the stage, of course: Nothing beats live music.
Faces reacting to sound: There is a difference between a photo of someone listening and a photo of someone feeling music.
Connections: People coming together to relax, shop and celebrate.
Quiet moments of focus: People completely absorbed and in the flow of it.
The in-between spaces: What goes on between the stalls, the stage and all the action. The moments that don’t draw attention, but are part of the story too.
